Felix Cartal & Keatch – Animals EP
posted by: chopsticks

Dim Mak‘s prodigy boy Felix Cartal is releasing a new joint EP with Keatch entitled Animals. After their very successful Solar/Lunar EP a few months back, this release is looking incredibly strong. Lazy Bird is very much the classic distorted-electro-banger and pulls it off well whereas Fish acts as the perfect B-side with a more interesting take on the same theme.

Peep both below. As previously mentioned, Lazy Bird is a bomb, but my personal favorite is Fish, which is absolutely great.

Out “soon” on Dim Mak and Keatchen Records.

Dr. Gonzo – Bust ‘Em Up EP [Southern Fried]
posted by: chopsticks

dr gonzo bust em up ep southern fried records

Contrary to popular belief, Christmas must be in April. Crookers‘ new side-project, Hive Mind Entity, featuring Savage Skulls, Wax Motif, and Neoteric, called Dr. Gonzo, takes off today with the release of Bust ‘Em Up, a three track EP filled with awesome. I’m a big fan of the Crookers’ brand of house, and this little side project with another of my favorite producers Savage Skulls is producing some dope futuristic sounds.

Tracklist:
Bust ‘Em Up (Savage Skulls & Crookers)
Get the Fuck Out of My House (Savage Skulls & Crookers)
Springer (Wax Motif & Neoteric)

Purchase via Beatport.

Preview below: Annie Mac debuting to the world on her show earlier this year.

Crookers & Savage Skulls Present: Dr. Gonzo
posted by: chopsticks

The motherfuckin’ Crookers are up to some serious shit. Now they’ve teamed up with Savage Skulls to create the completely mad beat-making machine that is Dr. Gonzo. Gotta say, one of my favorite group names of all time, but that aside, they’re cooking up some serious dope. Being served up, along with the usual MASSIVE side of hype, is their freshman EP, presented by the Crookers themselves, Bust ‘Em Up, featuring Savage Skulls, Wax Motif, and Neoteric. (more…)

James Blake – Wilhelm Scream EP
posted by: chopsticks

I rarely listen to forlorn rainy day music, but when I do, I prefer James Blake. The London-based producer/singer/songwriter has been on everybody’s radar ever since his wildly-successful, best-new-music-on-pitchfork-earning eponymous debut LP and making it onto BBC‘s Sound of 2011 list at #2 (after songwriter Jessie J, writer of Party in the USA and a crapload of other massive hits).

Blake’s post-dubstep, minimalistic, and toned down sound is accented by his incredible vocals, making him sort of the Antony Hegarty of EDM. Blake’s music isn’t really just sad and depressing and is not only for rainy days, but is tinged with reflection and introspection and has more depth than the Pacific. The Wilhelm Scream EP (released March 7) is no exception. Listen to the title track below and reflect on the ingenious title of the track.

Best paired with: precipitation, dim lighting, and a tug of the heartstrings.

Daft Punk‘s Tron: Legacy soundtrack is getting the official Disney-sponsored remix treatment. 12-year-olds everywhere get excited over the incredibly lame “R3CONFIGUR3D” title while EDM nerds like us get stoked over the tracklist.

Com Truise – Cyanide Sisters EP
posted by: chopsticks

com truise cyanide sisters

Throwback to my Animal Collective loving Toro y Moi cruising indie days. This music is great, but it’s not exactly my style nowadays, so it takes a beastly release to get me back into it. But, ya’ll… This Com Truise dude is the real deal. Guy’s an absolute synthwave newwave chillwave awesomewave powerhouse, and this is music that the kids just can’t help but love. If you dig on Neon Indian, Toro y Moi, Pretty Lights, Aphex Twin, or even Animal Collective and any other weird pseudo-electronic/whatever shit you’ll love this. A lot of his tracks are dancefloor workable as well, so house heads and dance music fiends can enjoy the sounds as well.

Cop the reissue of his Cyanide Sisters EP (out on Ghostly International) on ITUNES right now. So worth it, includes four bonus tracks as well!

Bonus listen: Trippy remix of an already trippy track. Indescribable vibes!
