Ed Banger Records: The Bee Sides
posted by: chopsticks

bee sides ed banger busy p

Please excuse me when I say that Busy P has indeed been a busy bee. Ed Banger Records has just released “The Bee Sides”! The compilation was released in conjunction with Record Store Day and hosts fresh, and I mean fresh, new tracks from Breakbot, Justice, Busy P, SebastiAn, and Carte Blanche. Only 500 hard copies are being produced on 7″ and sold in record stores.

Breakbot, perhaps my favorite DJ/Producer in the world, drops his new track “Fantasy” which sounds to me like a nu-disco Michael Jackson song. Lord knows I get down to Michael, but to add a Breakbot production to the mix is just a Fantasy.

Check out my…I mean Breakbot’s Fantasy and the tracklist after the jump

Sebastian – Embody
posted by: chopsticks

Ed Banger‘s resident prodigy, SebastiAn, has released his lead single from his upcoming LP, entitled Total and according to Busy Pedro is scheduled for release in May. The single is called Embody and is a holler back at straight up French house circa 2006. With a revival of the biggest names in electro from back in the day like MSTRKRFT, Justice, and now SebastiAn, it seems like the golden days are coming back in full force.

However, haters gonna hate, and people will criticize the apparent lack of progress in the Ed Banger camp, although I gotta say myself, I’m feeling this track. See and hear for yourself, official video below. Our homie, Chris Holmes, makes an appearance as the DJ getting danced on. I believe that’s Mickey Rourke in the tent, as well. Just kidding about Mickey, but it kind of looks like him, right?

Funky! Great vid as well, directed by Ed Banger artist So Me (dude behind the Barbra Streisand video from Duck Sauce). Fat Albert approves y’all.

Justice – Civilization
posted by: chopsticks

For the first time in almost four years, the duo of Xavier de Rosnay & Gaspard Augé, collectively known as Justice, is releasing new material. Surface to Air, known for their collab with the duo on a clothing line back in the day, just posted up on their site the art that they’ve done for the new single, Civilization. (more…)

Had to share this nugget. It’s just brilliant, and I wish I’d thought of it:

Cassius, I Love you so from WE ARE FROM L.A on Vimeo.

Get the app here: Cassius iPhone App (before the Black Eyed Peas steal the idea!).

I’ve always been a huge fan of iPhone lips (this photo’s from a year ago! And those are Ollie’s huge ass lips in the pic, by the way):

Rubber Recap
posted by: cmnder

Last weekend reminded us exactly of why we moved to LA. Friday we checked out AFI Film Festival, where Mr. Oizo and some of the ED Banger crew showed up for the premiere of Quentin Dupieux’s (Monsieur Oizo) RUBBER. With this film it is obvious that his immense talent spans both music, which he is well know for, as well as film, cinematography, and editing, all of which he did for this film.

Now if you have never seen a seriously made live action movie about an abandoned car tire with psychological problems that comes to life and goes on a psychokinetic killing spree, then you have to see RUBBER. While it holds true to Oizo’s surrealist and bizarre style, the film is funny and not with out vivid images of dozens of exploding heads. Everything can be pretty much summed up by Quentin’s statement pre-screening…in a heavy french accent he declares, “I filmed everything completely naked…and with one leather glove.”

Here’s the trailer…

…And the some from the sound track, produced by Oizo and Gaspard Augé of Justice

Oizo and Ed Banger
posted by: cmnder

Mr. Oizo (pronounced monsieur waa zo) is surely one of the weirdest producer/DJs on a major label today. Signed to Ed Banger Reocrds (where you find the likes of Busy B, Justice, Uffie, and Feadz), his musical style can best be described as surrealist. His last album, Lambs Anger seems somewhat of a tribute to the iconic Salvador Dali

Scene from Dali’s “Un Chien Andalou”

Oizo is definitely one of Ed Banger’s most out-there producers, but ceases to amaze with his live sets and crazy tracks. His new soundtrack (with Gaspard from Justice) and feature length film, Rubber, are coming out soon and should not disappoint. Check out the video below.
