Around the holidays, I don’t know what it is, but I always find myself in the mood for some Frank Sinatra. Growing up, I never realized what a womanizer old Frank was in his day. After listening to a little this year, it reminded me of this mixtape that came out a couple years back where DJ Cappel and Smitty paired up Sinatra and Notorious B.I.G. in a very Danger Mouse Grey Album sort of way. What’s really interesting about the juxtaposition of the two artists is that in quite a few cases, they’re talking about very similar themes just in very different ways. The smatterings of Frank dialogue throughout make this connection pretty clear in places for those unfamiliar with his mafia connected, dice throwing, screw any girl with a pulse type antics.
Anyway, if you’ve never heard this, give it a listen and get ready to laugh at some of the hilariously clever pairings, And if you’ve heard it before, have another listen and reminisce.
