Blaqstarr EP Release Party Tonight @ Cinespace
posted by: machete

blaqstarr divine ep release

Sorry for the lack of posts the last few days, but we’ve all been super busy planning parties and working on the EF Records Comp aka Pipemasters Vol. 1. Get ready for that to drop as soon as we can get all the paperwork sorted out.

So the dude that gave us “Shake It to the Ground” over three years ago (yet I still seem to hear it at least once a week in LA somehow) is putting out a new EP on MIA’s N.E.E.T. label. Neat.

Some Blaqqstar tracks after the jump:

Do They Know It’s Christmas O’Clock Somewhere?

Enjoy diabetes, Santa!

Nicole and I were driving back from the grocery store yesterday and saw a really lifelike Santa on someone’s roof drinking a Coke. It was a little bit scary at first glance, because it totally looked like a real person standing there precariously. Underneath, in huge letters there was a sign that read simply “Enjoy Diabetes.” These people have clearly made an art of saying “bah, humbug!”

A couple of Christmases ago, Captains of Industry made a little video covering the ridiculous Band Aide track “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” Pretty hilarious/amazing still, and DJ AM even makes an appearance. Get in the spirit, fool!

Tonight, I’ll be spinning at Purple Lounge at the Hollywood Standard from 10PM-2AM. I hope to see all my Jewish, orphan, family-timed out, or just plain heathen friends there.

CMNDer and JeffET

CMNDer is back at Torch in #CHS tomorrow for the EF Records party, Space Holler. If you’re in Charleston, you know you need to be there.

Them Jeans just posted a new remix, as well. This is from Swick’s upcoming Jogalani EP, which will also include a mix by Douster. Indeed.

And if you haven’t heard of Swick, he gave the world this little ditty earlier in 2010:

Rusko – Hold On (Them Jeans Remix)

them jeans

I had the pleasure of meeting the tall drink of water they call Them Jeans (6′ 9″ to be exact) Tuesday night at Cinespace. When he’s not holding down one of the best weekly parties in Los Angeles for Dim Mak, he’s also producing good music (he held down a top position on Hype Machine with a Yeah Yeah Yeahs remix for almost an entire week last month).

Here’s a brand new remix from Them Jeans:

Rusko-Hold On (Them Jeans remix) by Them Jeans

Looking forward to seeing this homie perform with Thee Mike B, Peanut Butter Wolf, Mayer Hawthorn, J Rocc, and so many more at Culture Clash tonight. Apparently the show is sold out. Big ups to the big guy for getting us on the list. Full report to follow.

What… the.. fuh…?

Apparently this is really happening. The Dim Mak blog cleverly chooses to use the phrase “music battle” rather than DJ battle, but I’m just really curious to see what’s up with this.

Red Bull Culture Clash Dim Mak Stones Throw

Knowing LA, a best case scenario for this show will be a shooting where the victim survives. Again, that’s a best case scenario. I’m gonna try and go, but I’m wearing a vest. And no, JeffET, not the Cosby vest.

I also stays inVESTed,

Mowgli Forever
posted by: machete

mowgli deadfish audio

Mowgli is one of the most unique (and reputably hardworking) producers I’ve come across over the past year. His label, Deadfish Audio, releases music for a roster of artists like Round Table Knights and Yolanda Be Cool (remember “We No Speak Americano”? Of course you do) with a hard-to-categorize style of dance music production completely their own. So I was very excited when I saw this new brand new mixtape by Mowgli, which sounds like deep underwater house mixed with tropical space disco. Enjoy:

MOWGLI – November 2010 Mixtape by Mowgli

Oh, and I got even more excited when I saw this:

mowgli j-wow junior boys

J-Wow and Mowgli in the same place, and the only location info being a party line lets you know shit will be legit. If you’re in LA, don’t sleep on this!!

MUSTARD PIMP AND MALENTE AT DRAI’S Sunday
posted by: machete

Hell yes. This here is why I moved to LA:

mustard pimp and malente at drai's cannonball dim mak party

Mustard Pimp are a sassy French electrohouse duo on Dim Mak, and are quite the hilarious haters on twitter (Foller them! for a laff: that’s Southern for “follow,” ya’ll.)

It seems like just the other day, these guys were relatively unknown in the states. Now I’m seeing them everywhere! Get on board. I’m currently nodding my head to their latest mixtape. What I’ve heard so far is quite dope. Very tech house: not so much ear splitting electro. These guys are quite versatile. Love love love the Samurai Jack intro. Haha.

As if that wasn’t enough, Malente the same night? My DJ bucket list is getting lots of checks these days. ^_^

Malente is responsible for one of my favorite tracks from all of 2009 (and on Fool’s Gold to boot). Here it is in all it’s fidget glory, as well as the excellent retouch by Riva Starr.

I’m also excited to see local hero, Thee Mike B spin. His last mixtape was very disco.
