Club music. Loved by many, hated by many. Produced almost exclusively by use of samples like Lyn Collins‘ Think About It and Gaz‘s Sing Sing, club music like Baltimore club aka bmore club and Philly club, is intensely repetitive and almost everything has the same beat.
But there’s just something about the genre that starts fires, there’s no denying that. While bad bmore is shitty as can be, good bmore gets everybody’s ass shaking.
Nobody’s championed bmore on an international scale as much as Diplo, proprietor of Mad Decent. With artists like Blaqstarr signed to the label, Diplo’s house has the power to keep the genre alive and moving forward.
Step 1 is to open the ears of listeners across the globe, and it looks like they’ve done that with the Brick Bandits Import/Export series of mixes. The Brick Bandits is a collective of club producers including names DJ Sega and DJ Fresh (Gold Dust, ya’ll). Mad Decent’s recently put out a heat-filled 32 minute mix of the Brick Bandit’s tunes mixed perfectly by the people’s champ himself Brodinski.
