Nick DeNitto cites an unlikely source for his main inspiration to be a dj: comedian, Aziz Ansari. The two were roommates at a residential high school in South Carolina and both were avid guitar players. Sharing a love for DJ Shadow, DJ Qbert, and Cut Chemist, the two became obsessed with turntablism, shunning anything that wasn't produced by a dj. Before the end of the first semester, Aziz bought turntables and the two began teaching themselves to scratch and beat match.While his style has changed over the years, Nick D. (current alias: MACHETE), continues to spin cohesive yet eclectic dj sets ranging from hip hop to nu disco and electro, sometimes donning a luchador mask and incorporating lights, videos, and dancers when performing. He's played with touring acts from Ghostland Observatory to Toro y Moi and Gil Mantera's Party Dream.
He is currently working on several original baltimore club and electro tracks between almost nightly live sets.
