Massive track to share today from young gun Dem Slackers. The kid is a relative newcomer in the global scene, but he’s already getting tracks dropped in sets from A-listers like Steve Aoki and Crookers. And yes, he is literally a kid–coming in at just 19 years of age, which is incredibly young for somebody getting this much support from the big ‘uns of the industry. But then again, he is Dutch, and that’s steroids for DJs these days. ‘Country has less people than NYC, but somehow manages to have, like, half of the world’s top DJ’s.
This track (yet to be released) is called “Let’s Go”, and here for your sonic pleasure is Bart B More’s take on this fidget house anthem.
We got some hot new tracks straight off the presses. No, that’s not Ewan MacGregor and Marlon Wayans starring in a retro remake of Men In Black, that’s Swedish production duo Savage Skulls. They’ve teamed up with the homie, Douster (King of Africa, anyone?), to release one of the dopest EP’s of the summer, Get Rich or High Tryin’.
Fifty: you don’t know shit! Douster is the real deal. Check that hat and tee combo, son! That shit’s from the past and the future at the same time. He just created a time paradox with his goddamn outfit.
Preview and pick up the new EP over at Mad Decent Records, and peep the bonus tracks with remixes by Crookers and J-Wow of Buraka Som Sistema. These tracks are already getting hype from DJ’s around the globe, and you’ll probably hear them played out all over the place–unless you’re at one of those shitty local clubs, where instead you’ll enjoying the latest uninspired top 40 bullshit. Have fun with that!
Oh, and if you want to hear some good music tonight, bop over to Torch and catch the homies, JeffET and MACHETE layin’ it down for Beach Boddin’ in Space.
What’s up kids? Did you know we’re playing a party? That’s right: Bird Flu, MACHETE, and JeffET, and myself all in one spot. It’s tonight at Mellow Mushroom Downtown!
I’m running a little contest amongst myself for who’s got the craziest Super Hero costume on! The winner gets an advanced copy of my 5 Minute Meltdown mix, which isn’t set to drop until September 25th. It’ll include all the EF Records artists and some special guests from the likes of Joycette and Jump Shot
Before I begin, Let me introduce myself a little better… I go by Rocky Horror. I’ve headlined such local events as Kulture Klash’s III and IV, as well as Badjon and SHT!’s Presents From Punks. I’ve played with the likes of Designer Drugs and Felix Cartal, and I’m super hyped on joining up with EFrecords. I started DJing when I was around fifteen years old. Using turntables and vinyl records, then moving on to Serato’s Scratch Live, and now after graduating from SAE’s NYC campus I’m performing live remixes and edits using various controllers and computer software.
My plan for these posts, is after each month has passed I’m gonna try my best to post up a music chart, or a Top Ten! Which is going to include not only some head pounding electro tracks that I’m known for playing, and tunes from all genres that caught my ear. For this first one, since this is the first post of many, I’m gonna go back a little further than a month to play catch up! Also, I’m gonna do my best to provide links for download, that way you guys can burn up a CD and jam out all month long! Lets get to it! To the artists/labels: I just tracked these down on the interwebs, so if you need us to take these links down, please just ask. We definitely can do.
Brand new unreleased action from face-meltage purveyors Jack Beats. Big Boi’s “Shutterbug” is being hailed as one of the best tracks of 2010 and no one really saw any improving on it, but dub house pioneers Jack Beats has just released one of the sickest mixes of the new decade. Those of you lucky enough to head out to the famed Electric Zoo this weekend up in NY will hear this tune for sure, it’s gonna be HUGE.
Check it out below, keep in mind this shit is ultra-exclusive right now, so all that’s out there is a recorded rip from one of their sets. But this shit is fire!
Get stoked ladies and gents, as you know Big Boi is in CHS on the 28th of October. If you haven’t got up on his original Shutterbug yet, click the link and get your learn on!
It’s been about 15 years since the original release, and now, It’s Time for the Percolator..remix’d album.
No joke, a few weeks after Cajmere put out their new It’s Time album, Aug 30 gives us a new versions of their timeless Percolator track, remixed by the likes of MAJOR LAZER, DJ Chuckie, Claude Vonstroke, Riva Starr, Mixin Marc, Bad Boy Bill, and DJ Gantman. I mean… nothing else to say. Check out the new Percolator video, revamped for the Its Time album release.
Major Lazer ya’ll, you all know it. Their tune “Pon De Floor” was one of yesteryear’s hugest tracks, tearing up dancefloors from Chucktown to Bangkok and everywhere in between. They’ve released an EP entitled Lazers Never Die, featuring big names like M.I.A. as well as Jamaican dancehall giants like Busy Signal. Check out the lead single from the disc below, entitled “Sound of Siren”.
Major Lazer is comprised of two major innovators, Diplo and Switch, and Chopsticks has made the acquaintance of both. Below is a short vid (also titled Lazers Never Die) about their show in Atlanta a few months back.
Chopsticks was there, and if you look hard enough, you can find us.
We were also originally in the beginning shot at the Majestic Diner as we were hanging waiting for a table when Major Lazer and crew rolled in looking for a seat. We swear. Shit. And while we may not have made it onto the video the upside is that we weren’t that dude that got clapped up outside the club on top of our car, true story. Read about it here if you really want to.
Look for big things to come from the duo. Diplo and Switch are always innovating.
Erol Alkan: the more I hear him, the more I like him. While he usually produces electro, I’m currently getting down to this incredible disco mix he put out the other day. He really shows some impeccable taste and low tech mixing ability here in a nod to tape edits that reminds me of James Murphy’s infamous Fabriclive.36. Check out Erol Alkan’s Disco 3000 (it’s free to download–there’s a tracklisting, as well, if you follow the link!):
But wait, there’s more! This one is really dope, if you love J Dilla. Stones Throw just released a free EP of J Dilla instrumentals, including 3 previously unreleased tracks. My favorite is “Safety Dance.” Click here to download this shit and see why! All tracks are high quality, 320kbps mp3s.
Speakeasy style night at Tasty Thai was super fun again last night. Sketchy backdoor, low lights, and a real eclectic set between myself, Party Dad, and JeffET made for a good start to Saturday. Best part of the night, tho… super drunk girl tries to steal Party Dad’s car after the gig, thinking it was hers… wow! She just gets it started as P. Dad jumps on the hood and scares the shit out of her!!
In other news… Diplo, a big inspiration for all of us just put out a new mixtape for a blog called Pomp&Clout. Just when you think he can’t surprise you anymore, we get ‘Chasing The Dragon’, a crazy mix of 60’s and 70’s acid rock, slow funk and soul, and pure rock’n'roll. Check it out and get it!
This is a new track I just finished. It’s a house track with a big Dutch influence, but some of the synths I used aren’t typical of most Dutch house. The name came to me one day when we were rock climbing and there was some blood on one of the holds and I thought to myself, “Wow, that’s hard.” [Note from MACHETE: I was with Benjamin and Adam that day, and I totally said to Ben, "You should name one of your tracks 'Blood On the Crimper!'" Yeah, I'm taking credit for that, because it's badass. Ben is actually an excellent climber, and so is Adam. I'm pretty shitty at it, but I am good at naming songs. ] Official release coming soon, stay tuned for updates and more tracks!
In other news, Chopsticks heads to China in a few days. We’ll be huffin’ it up and down to east coast for the next month, flying into Shanghai and then hitting most of the major cities down to Hong Kong. EF gear will be rocked along the way, stay tuned for some oriental updates! Also, since we’re out for a month, Fix Up! @ Tasty will feature one or more Electric Friend, so the spot will definitely still be on the up. Here’re a few snaps from this last week’s installment.
Shout out to the newly wedded Mr. and Mrs. Kenny! This is the first time we’ve seen anyone dance to rave music in a wedding dress.
Here’s a new Baltimore Club Edit I did of Blondie’s Atomic. It’s that song from the epic montage in Trainspotting. Enjoy! I’ll make it downloadable next week when it’s finished.
