CMNDer reporting from LA for your weekly local party update.
Saturday I checked out the epic club venue Avalon. Pretty good besides some ape man douchbag bouncers who decided that I was a professional photographer trying to shoot w/o a wrist band even tho there were about 1000 sweaty ppl holding up cameras to film Sander van Doorn play some uninspiring progressive house while showing us his armpits for about 90% of his set. Yea…once that was resolved…. the better music was in the “Honey room” where my friend DJ Cody Lee dropped a smooth tech-house set that went late night.

The weekday party seems to be the ticket in this town. Wednesday night we checked out a club called Voyeur which was definitely the best all around club/dj experience I’ve had here so far. The music was a pretty hard mix of Dutch house and the dj was actually doing some pretty decent mixing…first ive heard out here. Lavelle Dupree was on the decks.

Drai’s on Hollywood blvd seems to be the ticket with a Tuesday Dim Mak party. The weekends are a bit sceney..but it looks like this is where the party’s at.

Marmalade
Last night was another “Beach Boddin’” at Torch Monday. JeffET mixed with me dropping all vinyl all night long and things got a little out of hand, in a very good way, thanks to our killer monday night crowd and some new intelligent lights. I dropped a live version of my latest mix tape, Nice & Noisy, which was intense but well received and free to download HERE (Nice & Noisy)

JeffET and I are also changing things up at NV this Wednesday for our weekly MARMALADE party.
Just $3 cover til 12am,
$2 PBRs!, and
new dress code: be cool

Come dance with us!! To tide you over… Bart Bmore, one of the best up and comers in the electro/dutch house scene. Here’s one of his latest releases for ya.

Coooo-ku
Electric Friends were at O-Ku last night for an after party/fashion show of the ever talented Anna Lassiter hosted by Charleston After Dark. The place was packed to capacity for most of the night, and it was a pretty standard fashion show until Rainbow Brite showed up with a glowing hula hoop and decided it we should have a rave party. I think that’s encouraged the heavy electro house and miami bass set that followed, which ultimately culminated in a scuffle between an O-Ku patron and the management. There was apparently a disagreement about the acceptable use of chairs. Worry not: at the end of the night, everyone was okay, and the only things harmed were a few broken glasses and some ruffled feathers. Again: well done, Anna.

Oizo and Banger
Mr. Oizo (pronounced monsieur waa zo) is surely one of the weirdest producer/DJs on a major label today. Signed to Ed Banger Reocrds (where you find the likes of Busy B, Justice, Uffie, and Feadz), his musical style can best be described as surrealist. His last album, Lambs Anger seems somewhat of a tribute to the iconic Salvador Dali

Oizo is definitely one of Ed Banger’s most out-there producers, but ceases to amaze with his live sets and crazy tracks. His new soundtrack (with Gaspard from Justice) and feature length film, Rubber, are coming out soon and should not disappoint. Check out the video below.

James Holden for DJ Kicks in LA
Ive been in LA all week and had the lucky chance to catch James Holden, a big influence of mine, on his tour with DJ Kicks for his new mixtape. I can say for sure that Holden really is one of the absolute best DJs in the world, and I will probably never hear a set like his anywhere else.
He is the only DJ I have ever heard that is not afraid of off sync beats, funky pitch adjusts, and buildups that are straight up hard to listen to.
He takes it to the brink and then just when shit is getting ridiculous, he brings in something amazing.
